Increase oil price to market price by August

Malaysiakini reported Shahrir Samad was quoted by AFP as saying that government will increase oil price to market price by August. I think he must have been misquoted or what he said was misrepresented in the report. Just don’t make sense to me. Such decision to cut oil subsidy would definitely backfire.
