Hi there. I'm back to my question about dvdisdead.com. i decided to install wordpress in each sudirectory, so joeygadget.com/wordpress which has been up and running for two years, and joeygadget.com/dvdisdead/wordpress. i created an SQL database for each. I'd like to make dvdisdead.com url go to appropriate blog. my problem appears to be rooted in the .htaccess on the root level, as well as index.php and possibly wp-config.php files for either, or, and/or both since i have them in all of the directories. Sorry to be so lame-o but if you could advise I'd be so grateful - finally ready to turn on dvdisdead.com and i installed and it works fine if following the long (and wrong URL) but not if I want dvdisdead.com. :-\

I do not think this has any advantage for SEO purposes and Google may even block a URL that has duplicate content.

<i>1. am I correct in changing the nameserver for thedvdisdead.com to match the nameserver for joeygadget.com?</i>
Yes. Absolutely

<i>2. am i correct in not turning on forwarding for thedvdisdead.com?</i>
Yes. Don't forward/redirect, instead park/point to joeygadget.com.

<i>3. am i correct in that i need a wordpress directory for each blog, or is that one of my errors?</i>
Actually the method I showed is for you to have ONE blog with multiple domain names (which with advanced theme coding and use of plugins can create multiple sites with their own domain names). So you do not need install WordPress for each domain.

<em>4. lastly, i’m not sure how to configure the config file as you describe, above. does it go on my root directory on my hosting site joeygadget.com, and if so, do I somehow indicate in it that that WordPress for the main blog is in a subdirectory, and that thedvdisdead.com blog is in a subdirectory called /dvd/wordpress?</em>
Assuming that you've already installed WordPress successfully at joeygadget.com/wordpress and pointed/parked thedvdisdead.com to joeygadget.com. Edit joeygadget.com/wordpress/wp-config.php and add the additional code. Match the values for WP_SITEURL and WP_HOME with those for the WordPress address (URL) and Blog address (URL) respectively, which can be found in joeygadget.com/wordpress/wp-admin/options-general.php.

Hi there. Your how-to is so helpful, though I am still unable to get my second domain, thedvdisdead.com, to work off my host site, JOEyGADGET.com. I currently have JOEyGADGET.com working as a WordPress blow, with WordPress in the directory joeygadget.com/wordpress. I created a subdirectory joeygadget.com/dvd/wordpress for the blog thedvdisdead.com that I want to create, and I did the install and I can manage the site when I go to admin. On Godaddy, I changed the nameserver for thedvdisdead.com to match the joeygadget.com host site, and I created an SQL database for thedvdisdead.com. I think my confusion lies in these areas:

1. am I correct in changing the nameserver for thedvdisdead.com to match the nameserver for joeygadget.com?

2. am i correct in not turning on forwarding for thedvdisdead.com?

3. am i correct in that i need a wordpress directory for each blog, or is that one of my errors?

4. lastly, i'm not sure how to configure the config file as you describe, above. does it go on my root directory on my hosting site joeygadget.com, and if so, do I somehow indicate in it that that WordPress for the main blog is in a subdirectory, and that thedvdisdead.com blog is in a subdirectory called /dvd/wordpress?

Any advice and clarification you can offer is greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance,
Joe

I made a plugin that does this and has the added benefit of allowing you to specify a specific theme based on the visiting domain name. You could use this to cater content for a cell phone vs. a web page (i.e. mobile.blogsite.com and www.blogsite.com ). Likewise, your theme template could be designed to omit or include categories that might be objectionable to a visitor coming in from a 'G' rated domain name. There are numerous legitimate reasons to do this. You can also specify specific blog titles and taglines for each domain.

Hope this helps! ;-)

Thank you, it worked perfectly.
Due to my company's firewall I can only get to my site by using the ip address, which wordpress would then try and change to the domain name. Now I can access my blog by using the IP or the domain.
